Sound Gallery IGLOO
Komensky Street No.10, Jihlava
Iglau has igloo
In June 2016, a new sound gallery IGLOO was founded at the Vysočina Regional Gallery in Jihlava [OGV]. It is located in the newly renovated spaces in the historical cellars of the gallery building in the centre of Jihlava. The gallery is meant to be a creative space for presentation of artists working with sound. Sound art is interdisciplinary and hybrid art form and it includes sound installations and sculptures, sound poetry, field recordings, soundmaps, radio plays or audiovisual works.
We would also like to initiate the development of new sound projects. The first series is dedicated to artists from Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia. The general theme of the gallery is: acoustic ecology and the changing soundscape of European villages and cities in relation to current environmental, political and social changes.
Iglau house of sound
An igloo is a domelike shelter made of snow and the vaulted cellar location of the gallery resembles its shape a bit. The word igloo is used in Inuit language for a house built of any material. The title of the gallery Igloo also sounds similar like an original German name of the city Jihlava - Iglau.
Sound gallery IGLOO 2020
In 2020, three exhibitions will be held in the sound gallery IGLOO area, which will develop the themes of the main exhibitions: The exhibition of Adriena Šimotová and Jiří John "Dual imagery" will feature a sound installation presenting a selection of Adriena Šimotová's thoughts, with the exhibition of Alena Kučerová "Drawings, Prints, Sheets, Embroidery" will be presented an audiovisual documentary about the artist by Vladimír 518 and an exhibition by Daniel Balaban will be accompanied by a radio play written by his brother Jan.
